Thursday, November 19, 2009, 12:02pm PST - The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation said it will give $335 million for educational support in four U.S. locations, including Los Angeles.

The Seattle foundation will give $60 million to Alliance for College-Ready Public Schools, Green Dot Public Schools, ICEF Public Schools, PUC Schools and Aspire Public Schools, which are organizations that open charter schools in low-income, minority communities.

2cents smf smf: With the exception of ICEF, which faces fiscal challenges [Merger between two large charter-school organizations falls through - Los Angeles Times - May 12, 2011 + Students locked out of South Los Angeles charter school -abc7.com - May 23, 2011]  all the Charter operators named above (Alliance for College-Ready Public Schools, Green Dot Public Schools,  PUC Schools and Aspire Public Schools)  have been awarded new LAUSD campuses under Public School Choice v.2.0 by the Board of Education – some against the recommendation of the (former) superintendent and the expressed vote of the community – two against the recommendation of the board members representing the areas where the schools are located.
