URGENT ACTION NEEDED: YOU CAN HELP SAVE PUBLIC EDUCATION FUNDING
“LET US VOTE!”

23 Feb 2011

Hello from the Educate Our State Team:

The “Let Us Vote!” campaign was started by seven moms looking for a way to save public education funding. We work around carpool schedules and practices, between homework and bedtime reading. We are working to let people know that, contrary to what has been reported in the media, public education funding has not been "spared" in the Governor's budget. The budget assumes an extension of taxes that are set to expire July 1st. But, Californian's will not be given the chance to vote on this issue if the legislature doesn't approve sending this to the people. This is our last chance to prevent an additional $5 billion in cuts to education. We are asking our legislators to "Let Us Vote!" to save public education funding. It's easy to send a prewritten email here, it only takes 2 minutes.

We are trying to get the word out. You can watch a news clip of us here on NBC Bay Area talking about the “Let Us Vote!” campaign. Thank you to everyone that has already sent a letter -- over 10,000 have been sent from 100% of California's legislative districts. Haven't sent a letter? Please make sure your legislators hear from you by Feb. 28th, prior to the critical vote in early March. We are asking that you please forward this email to a friend or ask them to visit www.educateourstate.org.

California’s public schools have been underfunded for decades. Look at any ranking and you’ll see almost every state in the nation is spending more money on public education. Now Sacramento is on the verge of cutting another $5 billion, that’s approx. $900/child. What will your school need to cut? Teachers? Small class sizes? Enrichment programs? Will you balance your budget with even more furlough days? Or will they simply shut down your school? Send a letter today!
