UPDATE ON MARTY GALINDO LEAVE-OF-ABSENCE AND MOVE TO BASSETT USD

An 4LAKids correspondent – a knowledgeable and highly placed source – writes:

“You are so right about the Galindo/La Grosa switcheroo.  By going on leaves, senior staff and others who are allowed to do so can return to the District, be employed and qualify for lifetime health benefits that they would forfeit if they resigned from the District.  Many administrators especially at the teacher and principal levels have forgone opportunities in other Districts so as not to lose their lifetime health benefits.  STRS (State Teachers’ Retirement System) pensions are not affected if you transfer among California school districts, but health benefits are a local benefit which do not transfer and only a few other districts in California out of over 1000 offer the lifetime benefit that LAUSD does.”
